A non-Indigenous Canadian explains how Canadians must take responsibility for theirs country’s history of racism and colonialism that led to residential schools in Canada. It is important that settler Canadians not only take responsibility for the history of residential schools, but also for the socioeconomic struggles that Indigenous communities continue to experience due to their experiences at residential schools. The author also acknowledges that this burden should not solely be placed on survivors or their descendants and that it the country’s collective responsibility to help with the healing process.
