The author makes a strong case for shifting from trauma informed care, which only focuses on the trauma a person has experienced, to healing centered engagement, which focuses on a holistic approach that not only addresses a person’s trauma but also how to collectively heal from traumatic experiences.
There are 4 components to healing centered engagement: 1) Healing centered engagement is explicitly, political rather than clinical, 2) Healing centered engagement is culturally grounded and views healing as the restoration of identity, 3) Healing centered engagement is asset driven and focuses the well-being we want, rather than symptoms we want to suppress, and 4) Healing centered engagement supports adult providers with their own healing.
