According to a survey released by the Environics Institute in tandem with the National Center for Truth and Reconciliation, eighty percent of Canadians recognize the discrimination, and difference in standards of living Indigenous people face compared with those who are not Indigenous. Eighty percent of Canadians also support Indigenous language preservation. Although Canada is ready to embrace it’s dark history with Indigenous groups, more than 30% of Canadians are unaware of this history. What reconciliation is remains to be seen, but this will largely be shaped by the population’s understanding of Indigenous history and issues.
