Agnes Attakai, MPA

(Diné/Navajo Nation)

Agnes Attakai

Agnes Attakai, MPA, a citizen of the Diné (Navajo) Nation, is Program Manager for Native Initiatives at the Sonoran Center for Excellence in Disabilities. Agnes has a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Arizona and a Public Health Training Certificate for American Indian Health Professionals from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her role is to engage and collaborate with Tribal Nations in Arizona on developing trainings and services in response to the identified needs of Tribal members with disabilities across the state.

Agnes is passionate about community health equity, arts-based public health education & communication, health promotion/disease engagement, and STEM mentoring specifically in rural/frontier American Indian communities. Agnes is a member of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), National Rural Health Association (NRHA) Health Equity Council, Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Native American/Indigenous Affairs Committee.

Agnes' parents and siblings were and are still impacted by the urban relocation program and boarding school system. In her scholarly presentations and artistic works, Agnes explores how the U.S. boarding school system has influenced the health and wellness of survivors.
