Theresa Sheldon (she/her), citizen of the Tulalip Tribes, elected to the Tulalip Tribes Board of Directors for a three year term beginning in April 2024. She serves as the Secretary and the Service Committee Chair for the Tulalip Board of Directors.
She finished her two year tenure at the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition as the Director of Policy & Advocacy (H.R.7227 / S.1723 Truth & Healing Commission) . Formerly served for almost three years as an expert organizer for the Democratic National Committee as the Native American Political Director from April 2022 to August 2019. Presided on the Biden-Harris Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) in 2021 as the Native American Director. Worked at EMILY’s List to create their first Native American Run-to-Win Training for Native women seeking to run for political office (2018-2019). Served on the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) as the Co-Chair for the Safety & Justice Committee (2017-2024), served two terms as elected representative for the Tulalip Tribes as a Board Director (2013-2018). Served seven years as a policy analyst for Tulalip Tribes (2006-2013).
Serves on the following boards: Co-Chair for Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI) Native Vote since 2008-current. Founding member and Co-Chairperson for Native Vote WA (2007-2013), current Native Americans in Philanthropy Board Director (2021-current).
Advocate for historical justice, civic engagement, upholding and strengthening tribal sovereignty and the trust responsibility, protecting sacred places, empowering and fully funding Tribal education, language programs, and health care is a human right and a treaty right.
Theresa graduated from WWU with a BA in Law & Diversity in 2005. Is a snowboard coach and enjoys pulling canoe on the Coast Salish Sea with her 18 year old son, who graduated high school this year.
