The National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS) celebrates NABS Co-Founder and current NABS Oral Historian Dr. Denise K. Lajimodiere (Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa), who will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from North Dakota State University (NDSU) at their commencement ceremony on May 11th.
"Receiving an honorary doctorate isn't just an accolade; it represents a lifetime of dedication, passion, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge. It acknowledges the great impact Dr. Lajimodiere's work has had throughout Indian country,” said NABS CEO Deborah Parker (Tulalip Tribes). “We extend our gratitude to Dr. Lajimodiere for sharing her extensive expertise and knowledge with us, and we applaud and celebrate her as she earns this well-deserved honor.”
“This award from NDSU came as a complete surprise and I’m deeply honored. My parents were both boarding school survivors, with horrific experiences, yet they instilled in me the importance of education. I know they would be so proud of me. I dedicate this Honorary Doctorate to them,” said Dr. Denise K. Lajimodiere.
