Synod responded to a report published on the Doctrine of Discovery by calling the document heresy and cited the damage and pain it has caused, specifically by forcing Native children into boarding schools. One of the church run schools was operated by the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) and called Rehoboth Christian School. Experiences at the school were mixed, with some students describing their experiences as good, while others felt the opposite. An advisor to synod says their needs to be more work done in “acknowledging our personal and community response. We do need to acknowledge the cultural genocide that we have been part of and continue to be part of.”
