Boarding School Seasons offers a glimpse into the Haskell Institute in and the Flandreau School. The book is filled with letters from parents, children, and school officials discussing their experiences and perspectives. Children suffered from homesickness, and parents worried about the education and resources available to their children. In the midst of disease, and conflict with parents, the school maintained control and tried to sever families ties as much as possible in order to assimilate children.
