Jason Packineau

Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives

Jason Packineau (he/him) is a citizen of the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation and from the Pueblo of Jemez and Pueblo of Laguna. Jason’s career started in Washington, DC as an elementary school teacher in DC Public Schools. He later shifted to work on Rosebud and Pine Ridge reservations working as a teacher development program director before moving into higher education. At the University of New Mexico, and then at Harvard University, Jason advocated for Native and Indigenous college and graduate students as a student affairs professional. Most recently, Jason was the Director of the Office of Native and Indigenous Affairs at the National Endowment for the Humanities where he focused on cultural and humanities-based initiatives for Tribal and Indigenous communities. Jason is a descendant of multiple boarding school survivors who attended schools in New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and South Dakota.
